Bingara youngsters will soon be getting their new bikes, scooters and boards ready to test out on the new the long run skate park, after the first ceremonial sod of soil was turned yesterday for the $450,000 State Government-funded project.
Member for Northern Tablelands Marshall was joined by Gwydir Shire Council’s Town Utilities and Plant Manager Andrew Cooper at Cunningham Park yesterday to review plans for the exciting youth project and formally commence the preliminary earthworks.
“This is fantastic, long-awaited and exciting news for the youngsters of Bingara,” Mr Marshall said.
“The new skate park will accommodate users of all ages and skills and includes a perimeter pump track, an inner skate area and supporting amenities.
“The skatepark was designed by young people in the district and aims to provide more recreational activities for locals and visitors alike.
“It will be an open and outdoor space where young people can meet safely, be active and hangout, with plenty of shade and barbecue facilities nearby.”
Gwydir Shire Council’s Town Utilities and Plant Manager at Andrew Cooper said he was excited to get the project underway.
“Bingara Central School students helped with the design of the skatepark and were consulted throughout the process,” Mr Cooper said.
“The skate park includes quarter pipe return, mini bowl, and scooter pump track along with landscaping of the area including connecting footpaths and seating areas.
“The construction contract has been awarded to Precision Skate Parks and council will be undertaking the preliminary earthworks.”
The grant was secured earlier this year under the NSW Open Spaces Program.
