Holiday fun has ended in tragedy with two teenage girls dying in a boating accident at Lake Keepit yesterday.

The two visitors to the Manilla Ski Gardens caravan park, aged 13 and 14, were being towed behind a boat on an inflatable tube when they hit a tree in the water.

Locals performed CPR while waiting for NSW Ambulance and the rescue helicopter to arrive, but were unable to revive the pair.

The boat was being driven by a man in his 70s who was taken to hospital for tests.

An inquiry is underway and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

It was a busy day for rescue services, with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter being tasked to a property at Wallarobba, near Dungog, after a man sustained multiple injuries to his legs and pelvis in a tree felling accident. Trapped for some time, he had to be freed by emergency services before being treated and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.

Careflight was also sent to Tamworth yesterday to collect a patient, but had to make an emergency landing in Bankstown, as reported by 7 News.
