Motorists on Goonoo Goonoo Road at South Tamworth face lane closures, stop/slow traffic control, and a 40 km/h speed limit from Monday, 9 November, while crews clean out large concrete drains.
The work will also include clearing vegetation near Barnes Gully and inspecting the large drains below the road.
Crews will be on site from 7am to 5pm on weekdays.
The job is expected to take one week to finish, weather permitting.
Transport for NSW said the changed traffic conditions will be in place during the work for the safety of workers and motorists.
Drivers are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
