Moree locals wanted to help steer Taylor Oval aquatic centre

Taylor Oval, Moree

Moree locals with know-how in running pools or building them have the chance to help shape the town’s Taylor Oval Aquatic Centre, with Moree Plains Shire Council calling for community members to join a new project steering committee.

Council is looking to appoint up to three community representatives to the Taylor Oval Aquatic Centre Project Steering Committee, after councillors backed the move at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Thursday, 15 October.

Applicants need direct experience in aquatic centre management, construction, or both.

The committee is being set up to give the community a real role in informing the planning and development of the project.

Members will be briefed on the project and will provide advice and recommendations to the project team and council on matters relating to the development.

The aim is to help council make sure the project succeeds and meets local community needs, by drawing on informed community views and industry expertise as the project moves forward.

The three community members will sit alongside one representative from each of the Moree Local Aboriginal Land Council, Moree Amateur Swimming Club, Moree Diggers Swimming Club, Tourism Moree, and Moree & District Chamber of Commerce.

The committee will meet twice in its first two months, then quarterly for the life of the project.

People interested in joining are encouraged to submit an expression of interest outlining their relevant experience and skills, and how they believe they can contribute to the project.

Expressions of interest close at 5pm on Thursday, 12 November, and successful applicants will be contacted.

Expressions of interest can be submitted through the Taylor Oval Steering Committee survey.
