Tenterfield’s School of Arts is marking 150 years since its official opening with a night of glitz and glamour, and the money raised will go straight back into the nationally significant building.
School of Arts Tenterfield Inc. (SOATI), the community organisation that now manages the School of Arts Theatre and Museum, will host a fundraising Swish Soiree on Thursday, 26 November, from 7pm to 9pm.
The night will feature local musicians Three Birds and a Guitar, Mitch Smith, and Bec Newman.
“In the 11 months since taking over the management of the Theatre and Museum, SOATI has achieved quite a lot,” said SOATI President Kevin Markwell.
“We’ve reactivated the Theatre, bringing in a number of great performers and we are on track to improve the visitor experience at the Museum, so there’s much to celebrate.”
Mr Markwell said the group was always looking for new ways to raise money.
“While we are grateful to Tenterfield Council for its annual funding, this goes entirely into part-funding Rosie Denton and Hannah Orchard, our wonderful managers of the theatre and museum, so we are always needing to come up with new ways of diversifying our income and raising funds,” he said.
“All the money raised by SOATI goes back into enhancing what we can offer visitors and patrons.”
SOATI has another reason to celebrate, having just been awarded a $31,300 grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.
The money will fund a project titled “When the rains didn’t come: Enhancing drought preparedness and resilience in Tenterfield”.
Guests are encouraged to dress up, grab some friends, and head to the School of Arts for an evening of glamour, laughs, tasty finger food, and guilt-free fun.
Tickets are $40, including the first drink, and are available from the Courtyard Café or at https://events.humanitix.com/school-of-arts-soiree/tickets
