Community groups across Narrabri Shire will be able to improve facilities, support families and deliver local events thanks to $14,500 in council funding.
Ten organisations have received grants through Narrabri Shire Council’s Community Financial Assistance Grant Program, with projects aimed at strengthening community connections and improving opportunities for residents.
The funding will support a range of initiatives, including sporting events, mental health awareness, youth leadership, heritage preservation and activities for vulnerable community members.
Among the recipients is the Narrabri & District Community Aid Service, which received $500 to purchase toys for its annual Community Christmas Drive, benefiting approximately 150 families across the region.
Narrabri Meals on Wheels also received $500 to host a Christmas luncheon for clients and volunteers, providing an opportunity for social connection and recognition.
The Country Education Foundation of the Namoi secured $3,000 for a special screening of Just a Farmer, a film exploring the challenges faced by farming families and promoting mental health awareness in rural communities.
Young people will also benefit, with Narrabri High School P&C Association receiving $500 to help 10 student leaders from low socio-economic and/or Indigenous backgrounds attend the GRIP Leadership Conference in Tamworth.
Sporting organisations were among the successful applicants, with the Narrabri Dolphins Water Polo Club receiving $2,000 to deliver its Community Aquatic Participation Program during the 2026-27 season.
The Narrabri District Cricket Association received $2,000 for its annual Town vs Country T20 cricket event, while Galloping Gully Polocrosse Club secured $500 to install six steel benches, improving comfort and accessibility for spectators.
Community facilities will also benefit, with Eulah Creek Hall Recreation Reserve Land Manager receiving $2,500 for new foldable and stackable chairs, allowing the hall to better accommodate local gatherings and events.
Spring Plains Public Hall Manager received $2,000 to create a permanent heritage display celebrating the history of the hall and surrounding communities.
ArtsNational Narrabri was awarded $1,000 to support brochure printing and promotional advertising, helping promote its activities to the wider community.
The successful organisations were recognised at a ceremony in the Council Chambers, where representatives signed their funding agreements.
Narrabri Shire Mayor Darrell Tiemens said the grants recognised the dedication of local volunteers and community organisations.
โOur community organisations put an incredible amount of time, energy and passion into making their communities better places to live. While that work can bring its challenges, it also brings enormous reward.โ
โWe donโt always take the time to celebrate what we achieve as a community, so itโs wonderful to recognise these groups and the projects they are bringing to life. Council is proud to support initiatives that mean so much to our local communities.โ
Council said the program was designed to help community groups turn local ideas into projects that provide lasting benefits for residents.
Other organisations with initiatives that could improve community wellbeing, facilities or participation are encouraged to consider applying for future funding rounds.
