Tamworth’s Stars Dance For Cancer has raised more than $202,000 for Cancer Council NSW, following a sold-out-style night of dancing and fundraising at TRECC.
The diamond-studded, denim-themed event was held on September 12, attracting 430 people to watch 11 local identities take to the dance floor alongside partners from Tamworth City Dance Academy.
Participants competed for three awards — People’s Choice, Judges’ Choice and Highest Fundraiser.
Nicklaus Weir took out the People’s Choice award, while Sam Gardner was named the Judges’ Choice winner.
Adam Brook was the night’s highest fundraiser, bringing in more than $36,000.
Judges Ann Walsh, Grace Cooper — last year’s Judges’ Choice winner — and Kevin Anderson also gave a highly commended recognition to Jessica Eggins and Lachlan Barry for their performance.
Cancer Council NSW community fundraising specialist Sally-Anne Whitten said the result reflected strong support from across Tamworth.
“Raising over $200,000 is a huge testament to the dedication of each of our 11 stars, and to the overwhelming support of the local Tamworth Community.” said the Cancer Council NSW.
The money raised will support local cancer services, as well as Cancer Council NSW research, advocacy and education programs across the state.
