Police are investigating a series of break-ins, vehicle thefts and an alleged kidnapping across Tamworth early Monday morning.
The investigation began after a BMW sedan was stolen from a home on Kalinda Place at Hillvue between midnight and 2.10am.
Officers from Oxley Police District attended the property and found the home had been ransacked.
Police allege the stolen BMW was driven to a petrol station on Jewry Street at Taminda about 2.20am, where an occupant filled the vehicle with fuel before leaving without paying.
About 3.40am, the BMW was allegedly driven to a motel on Gunnedah Road at Westdale, where a group got out and kicked open the door of a motel room.
Police allege the group demanded keys and cash from a man in his 30s before stealing keys to a Mazda station wagon, a mobile phone and a backpack containing a wallet, laptop and other personal belongings.
The group allegedly kicked open the door of another motel room and demanded keys and cash from a man in his 50s.
Police allege they stole keys to a Toyota SUV and a wallet before driving away in the Mazda and Toyota.
Neither man was injured.
About 4.35am, police allege the same group approached a man in his 50s who was sitting in a vehicle in a car park on Armidale Road at East Tamworth.
One member of the group was allegedly armed with a machete.
Police were told the group demanded money from the man before ordering him into the back seat of another vehicle, believed to have been stolen.
The man was allegedly driven to a bank on Peel Street, where the group demanded he withdraw money.
Police responded but were unable to find the group.
The man was later located uninjured.
Police are investigating whether the incidents are linked and are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or has relevant CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage to contact investigators.
