Namoi Gwydir Bush Fire Risk Management Plan on public exhibition

The Namoi Gwydir Bush Fire Management Committee is inviting community feedback on its draft Bush Fire Risk Management Plan, which is now on public exhibition.

A Bush Fire Risk Management Plan (BFRMP) maps and describes bushfire risk across an area and identifies treatment strategies to minimise and mitigate risks to the community over five years.

The plan is an important strategic document designed to help protect communities and assets, with some of its treatment strategies potentially having a direct impact on residents and their properties.

The Namoi Gwydir BFRMP has recently been reviewed by the Namoi Gwydir Bush Fire Management Committee (BFMC), which includes fire agencies, land managers and other stakeholders. The committee has been working to identify ways to reduce the impact of fires across the region.

“Local knowledge is invaluable when planning for bush fire risk. Residents, landholders and
community members understand their area better than anyone, and their input helps ensure
the plan reflects local conditions, values and priorities,” said Namoi Gwydir Bush Fire Risk Management Committee Executive Officer Superintendent Scott Mack.

“Reducing bush fire risk is a shared responsibility. Government agencies, land managers,
emergency services and private land owners, along with the community all have a role to play,
and this plan provides an opportunity to work together towards common outcomes.”
