Chris Cobb will release his new single Down Down ahead of his debut album More Questions Than Answers, followed by a run of performances across Queensland and northern New South Wales, including shows with Australian country music artist James Blundell.

From the mountains of Papua New Guinea to The Voice Australia, the Digicel Cup Grand Final, the Tamworth Country Music Festival and some of Queensland’s biggest country music stages, singer-songwriter Chris Cobb has turned an extraordinary personal journey into his debut album, More Questions Than Answers.

The Papua New Guinea-born, Sunshine Coast-based artist will release Down Down on Friday 31 July, followed by the 10-track album through Ambition Music on Friday, 7 August.

Raised in the historic goldmining town of Bulolo in Papua New Guinea’s Morobe Province, known as ‘Little Texas’ for its strong country music culture, Cobb grew up surrounded by traditional music, family string bands and country songs played on transistor radios, learning guitar from family members.

Music remained a constant throughout a successful corporate career in Papua New Guinea, where Cobb also became a recognised performer on the Port Moresby live music scene, appearing at major events and community celebrations.

In 2022, he left corporate life to pursue music professionally, relocating to the Sunshine Coast with his family and rebuilding his career through open mic nights, local venues, festivals and community events.

National recognition followed in 2025 when Cobb appeared on The Voice Australia, where his performance of Cold Chisel’s When The War Is Over earned a four-chair turn and a standing ovation from the coaches.

Away from television, he has performed to crowds of more than 15,000, including at the Digicel Cup Grand Final at Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby. He has also shared the stage with artists including Ronan Keating and supported Daryl Braithwaite.

Now signed to Ambition Music, Cobb has brought together an album shaped by home, family, faith, resilience, love, loss, belonging and the courage to pursue a dream without knowing where it will lead.

The album’s lead single, Down Down, was inspired by Cobb’s first appearance at the 2026 Tamworth Country Music Festival. The song reflects the experience of road-tripping to Tamworth and busking around Australia’s country music capital.

The trip also introduced Cobb to Australian country music artist James Blundell and Ambition Music’s Robert Rigby, relationships that would ultimately help bring his debut album to life.

“Down Down is about finally arriving at a place I had dreamed about for years, while recognising every person, decision, and setback that helped me get there.” said Cobb, ahead of performances with Blundell, including a show in Murwillumbah..

Produced and mixed by Dan Frizza, whose credits include Tones and I, Gurrumul, The Whitlams, Amy Shark, Guy Sebastian, Bernard Fanning and Peter Garrett, More Questions Than Answers blends contemporary country with acoustic roots, soul and Australian rock influences.

The album includes Love Letter to Morobe, co-written and performed as a duet with James Blundell. The song celebrates Morobe Province and the enduring connection between Australia and Papua New Guinea through the shared experiences of two musicians whose lives were shaped by the region.

It also features Cobb’s stripped-back interpretations of John Farnham’s Burn For You, Cold Chisel’s When The War Is Over and Wendy Matthews’ The Day You Went Away, alongside original songs including Linger, Honey Dew and Come On Home. The album closes with Amen, written by UK artist John Adams.

James Blundell and Brisbane violinist Felicity Kircher appear on the album, alongside a guest appearance from Briar Blundell on guitar.

“Every song on this album is part of my story, even the covers. It is about where I have come from, the people who have shaped me, and the dream that kept getting bigger every time I stepped on stage.

“I hope these songs remind people that no matter where you come from, anything is possible if you are prepared to keep believing,” Cobb said.

Cobb will support the album with ticketed concerts and festival appearances across Murwillumbah, Bundaberg, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gympie, including performances at the Brisbane Ekka and Gympie Music Muster. Selected shows will feature James Blundell, Felicity Kircher and Briar Blundell.

The tour includes a performance in Bundaberg on the day Down Down is released, returning to the town where Cobb first busked in Australia as a teenager.
