Two teens charged over alleged robbery in Tamworth

Two teenagers have been charged over an alleged robbery in the state’s north-east overnight.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a liquor store on Goonoo Goonoo Road, Tamworth, about 10.30 am yesterday, Monday, 25 May, following reports of a robbery.

Police will allege a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl entered the business while a 15-year-old girl remained outside.

Police will allege in court that when the boy and the younger girl took alcohol from a shelf, a staff member — a woman in her 30s — attempted to stop them from leaving.

The 15-year-old girl then allegedly grabbed the woman by the hair and punched her in the head. Police further allege the younger girl also punched the woman in the face, while the boy allegedly assaulted the employee.

Police will allege in court that all three left the store with alcohol worth about $230.

About 30 minutes later, police arrested a 16-year-old boy and two girls, aged 13 and 15, at the intersection of Edgeroi Street and Florida Street, Tamworth, where bottles of alcohol were allegedly seized.

All three were taken to Tamworth Police Station, where the boy was charged with robbery in company and breach of bail. He was refused bail and was due to appear before a children’s court today, Tuesday, 26 May.

The 15-year-old girl was charged with robbery in company and granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.

The younger girl was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
