Strong Response to Narrabri Shire VR Art workshops

Narrabri Shire Libraries has celebrated the success of its Virtual Reality Art workshops, with 24 local youth taking part across sessions held in Wee Waa and Narrabri during the January school holidays.

Eight participants attended the workshop at Wee Waa Library, ten at Narrabri Library, and a further six experienced the technology during a drop-in taster session. Both workshops were fully booked, reflecting strong community interest in creative digital programs.

Mayor Darrell Tiemens said the response demonstrated the value of providing innovative opportunities for young people in the Shire.

“It’s fantastic to see such strong engagement with this program,” Mayor Tiemens said.

“Our libraries continue to evolve as modern community spaces, and initiatives like this give young people access to creative technology experiences close to home.”

Library Coordinator Naomi Radford said participants embraced the opportunity to create immersive 3D artwork using virtual reality.

“The enthusiasm from participants was wonderful to see,” Ms Radford said.“The workshops allowed young people to explore creativity in a completely new way, and the fact that sessions booked out shows there is real appetite for programs that combine art and technology.”

The Virtual Reality Art workshops were supported by funding from the NSW Government through the Office of Youth.

Narrabri Shire Libraries continues to explore innovative programming opportunities that support creativity, learning and digital skills development across the community.
