New England Girls’ School will open its Junior School classrooms to local families next Tuesday as part of its “Ready, Set, NEGS” event, aimed at parents considering Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten enrolment.

The one-hour session will be held on Tuesday, March 3, from 10am to 11am, and is designed to give families an overview of the school’s approach to early learning.

Junior School Coordinator Deanna Ford said the focus at NEGS is on developing both academic capability and personal growth.

“At NEGS Junior School, we set children up to become good at learning and good at life,” Ford said.

“This isn’t just about academic achievement — it’s about developing the whole child through evidence-informed teaching practices.”

The school says its Junior School program incorporates “Pedagogies for Deep Learning,” combining explicit, systematic teaching with six global competencies: character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking.

Literacy instruction is a key focus in the early years. According to the school, students are taught using systematic, synthetic phonics to build reading fluency before progressing to more advanced work in vocabulary, morphology, grammar and syntax.

The Junior School also promotes four core values — responsibility, integrity, teamwork and excellence — under the school motto, “Whatsoever you do, do it heartily.”

Ford said the school aims to balance high expectations with a supportive environment.

“We maintain high expectations for learning, behaviour and personal growth within a supportive environment,” she said. “This is how children develop the confidence and resilience essential for lifelong success.”

The coeducational Junior School setting is intended to support social development, with an emphasis on collaboration, communication and adaptability.

The March 3 event will provide families with an opportunity to tour classrooms and observe aspects of daily Junior School life.

Registration details are available through the school website or by contacting NEGS directly.
