NEGS Armidale will host a one-day High Performance Camp next month, bringing elite coaches and specialist presenters to Armidale to mentor young athletes from across the region.
The camp will be held on Saturday 14 February at the NEGS grounds and is aimed at motivated student athletes aged 10 to 18. It will offer a comprehensive approach to high-performance sport that extends beyond technical skill alone.
The program reflects NEGS’ broader educational philosophy of striving for excellence beyond the classroom, with a strong emphasis on discipline, consistency, and attention to detail in everyday effort. Students are encouraged to understand that extraordinary outcomes are built through ordinary moments done well, whether in training, study, or teamwork.
“Excellence isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes it’s the consistent effort, the attention to detail, the integrity when no one’s watching,” said Ella Kenny, NEGS Head of Sport.
“Our sporting culture is underpinned by NEGS’ core values: responsibility, integrity, teamwork, and excellence. These values guide our athletes on and off the field, shaping confident, capable, and respectful young people.”
The camp is not about identifying the best athletes, but about helping young people develop confidence, capability, and the skills required to perform at their personal best, both in sport and in life beyond the school gates.
“This camp teaches young athletes what we teach across every aspect of NEGS life – that how you do anything is how you do everything, and that excellence in small things builds exceptional lives,” Kenny said.
The coaching panel brings together a high calibre mix of experience across multiple sports. Hockey sessions will be led by Mark Knowles, Greg Doolan, and Ella Kenny, while netball coaching will be delivered by Charli Wright. Rugby sessions will include Jason Allwood, Richard Kellaway, and representatives from Rugby NSW.
In addition to sport-specific coaching, participants will take part in specialist sessions covering sports nutrition, running mechanics, performance cooking, and sports psychology. The program is designed to support both physical development and mental preparation, with a focus on sustainable performance rather than short term results.
Throughout the day, participants will be encouraged to reflect on the habits and behaviours that underpin long term success, from consistent training and preparation to leadership, resilience, and respect for teammates and opponents.
Athletes will also have opportunities to interact directly with elite coaches, including photo opportunities and informal engagement designed to create lasting connections with industry professionals who understand the demands of high performance sport.
The High Performance Camp will commence at 9.30am and run for the day at the NEGS Armidale grounds. The cost is $130 per participant, with registrations now open. Find out more on their website.
