Planned disruption to Telstra Mobile Network at Dundee

Telstra has announced an upgrade to its mobile base station servicing Dundee, aimed at improving 4G performance and introducing 5G capability to the area.

The upgrade is expected to deliver improved network capacity, offering residents more consistent mobile speeds, smoother streaming and typically faster downloads. According to Telstra, the introduction of 5G will also enhance the existing 4G experience by relieving network congestion.

Temporary service disruptions

Mobile services in the area will be temporarily disrupted while works are carried out. Telstra has advised that customers will receive text messages with details ahead of the planned outages.

Landline services, NBN connections, and mobile services from other providers will not be affected.

“We know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether you’re in the city or the country.” said Telstra Regional General Manager Mike Marom.

“As data use over our mobile network continues to grow, adding extra 4G capacity to our mobile site in the area will help deliver faster downloads, smoother streaming and less congestion for customers. The work will also make the site ready for a further upgrade to our even faster 5G in the future.”

“While disruption is required while the upgrade is underway, we’ll only be switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible.”

The site is scheduled to be offline during the following times:

  • Friday, 5 December to Monday, 8 December (entire period)
  • Tuesday, 9 December (8 hours)
  • Wednesday, 10 December (4 hours)

Tips to stay connected during works

To minimise disruption, Telstra is encouraging customers to enable Wi-Fi Calling on their devices. This free feature allows mobile calls and texts to be made over a Wi-Fi connection.

Business owners are also advised to speak with their bank about configuring EFTPOS terminals to operate via NBN or Wi-Fi, to avoid interruptions to payment processing.
