‘Spend in Glen’ continues to promote buying local this festive season

Glen Innes Severn Council will once again support Spend in Glen, a long-running ‘buy local’ initiative that encourages the community to shop locally in the lead-up to Christmas.

Organised this year by an active group of local businesses and supported by Council, Spend in Glen will run from 20 November to 24 December, offering residents the chance to win a share of $10,000 in Shop Local Gift Cards simply by choosing to support Glen Innes retailers.

The much-loved entry barrel is back for 2025. Shoppers who make a minimum $20 purchase at a participating local business can place their receipt into the entry bin located along the main street for a chance to be one of 44 prize winners. Now in its second decade, Spend in Glen continues to grow each year, providing an important boost for the local economy while giving businesses the chance to showcase their products and services during the busiest retail period of the year.

“Council is proud to once again support Spend in Glen, a fantastic community-led initiative that celebrates the strength and spirit of our local businesses. Every dollar spent locally helps keep our economy strong, supports local jobs, and ensures our main street continues to thrive. I encourage everyone to get behind our businesses this Christmas and enjoy everything Glen Innes has to offer,” said Mayor Margot Davis.

Local businesses are pleased to see it return.

“Spend in Glen is something our business community looks forward to every year. It brings people together, creates a buzz in the main street, and reminds everyone how important it is to shop local. As a business owner, I’m pleased to be involved once again, and it’s great to have the iconic barrel back.” Local business owner, Sue Waters from Carelles said.

Community members are invited to join the festive atmosphere in the Town Square for the prize draws on:

• Thursday 4 December – 5:30pm

• Thursday 11 December – 5:30pm

• Thursday 18 December – 5:30pm

• Final Draw: Wednesday 24 December – 12:30pm
