The Super Strawberry opens its fields for a season of family fun

The Super Strawberry's food truck, and some of their delicious strawberries

It’s an especially sweet time at The Super Strawberry, and locals are invited to come along and savour it. The much-loved Glen Innes attraction has officially opened for strawberry-picking season, welcoming visitors to explore the rows and pick their own fresh, juicy berries straight from the patch. The season runs from October through to around May next year, depending on when the first frosts arrive.

What makes this experience extra special is that The Super Strawberry is both family-owned and family-friendly. While the farm and café have long been part of the Glen Innes landscape, the newest chapter began just 12 months ago when the Mitar family purchased the property and café.

Sarav Mitar and his wife Sonia settled in the region after trialling life in Glen Innes, Sydney and South Australia. But Sonia said that, from the moment she moved from India, it was Glen Innes that always had her heart, and it was here that they finally decided to make their home.

“It had always been my dream to start a business, especially in farming,” said Mr Mitar. “Having the combination of the farm and the café has been an amazing experience. We’re really enjoying the business and being a part of the community.”

The pick-your-own season offers plenty of opportunities for fun and fresh produce. Visitors can wander the fields, fill a punnet, and experience the joy of harvesting straight from the plant. Families are encouraged to linger in the grounds, enjoy the café’s offerings and make a morning or afternoon of it.

“The pick-your-own strawberry experience is something we started because of public demand — people love it!” said Mr Mitar. “People are very excited for the experience, and it’s just a great family outing. And these are very special strawberries! They’re sweet like honey. When we make our fresh milkshakes, we have to be careful not to add sugar — otherwise they’d be too sweet!”

Beyond the fields, the café adds another layer to the experience — whether it’s stopping in for coffee and a strawberry milkshake, or taking home homemade jams, sauces and other local gourmet goodies.

“We’re really trying to expand the business to make it a real ‘one-stop shop’ for a family day out,” said Mr Mitar. “The playground area we have with the jumping castle, swings and trampoline was so popular during the school holidays. We’re hoping that next year we’ll be able to organise a bigger playground area.”

Alongside the new giant strawberry, playground, pick-your-own fields and café, the Mitars also operate a food truck, which they take to many of the region’s major shows and school events.

If you’re looking for a genuine family-friendly destination — where you can pick your own strawberries, linger over café treats and enjoy a day out in beautiful farm surroundings — The Super Strawberry is open and ready. Come with friends or family, grab a punnet, fill it with freshly picked berries, and turn it into a memory.
