October is Small Business Month! And to celebrate, we’re highlighting some of the great small businesses we have throughout the region.
Today we’re celebrating the art of care – from imaginative creations that spark joy, to gentle hands that heal, and the tech experts who keep everything running right.
Granny Fi’s Toy Cupboard
Where Imagination Never Grows Up
161 Beardy Street, Armidale, NSW

Step inside Granny Fi’s Toy Cupboard and you’ll find a world where imagination runs wild and nobody ever truly grows up. This family-run toy shop is filled with handmade dolls, dragons, and magical treasures inspired by all your favourite fandoms – every shelf bursting with colour, creativity and a touch of nostalgia.
The dream began with artist and author Fiona McDonald, whose lifelong passion for toys and storytelling finally came to life in early 2013. With the help of her daughter and “dragon apprentice” Beattie, Granny Fi opened the doors to their first shop – a cosy little world where the pair could bring their creations to life, often sewing late into the night with something comforting on the TV.
Four generations of women have poured their hearts into this enchanting business. Great Grandma knitted toys right up until her final year, proudly encouraging everyone she met to visit the shop. Today, Fiona and Beattie continue her legacy with help from their joyful toy testers, Izzy and Charlotte – and, of course, a well-earned slice of cake after a hard day’s work.

Better Bodies with Bowen
Gentle Healing for Real Results
3 Gidgee Street, Hillvue, NSW 2340

When you step into Better Bodies with Bowen, you’re welcomed into a space of calm, care, and genuine understanding. Each treatment is thoughtfully tailored to your body’s needs, using the gentle Bowen Technique to ease pain and tension while helping the body naturally restore balance. It’s a method built on subtlety and intuition – one that works with your body’s own healing ability rather than forcing it.
Owner and therapist Cheree has been practising Bowen Therapy since 2016, guided by a deep belief that true wellness comes from listening to what the body is trying to say. With qualifications in Bowen Therapy, Fitness, and Aqua Aerobics, she brings both skill and empathy to every session. Her clients know her as someone who will always find the time to help, even after hours, when someone needs care the most.
For Cheree, Better Bodies with Bowen isn’t just a business – it’s a calling to help people move freely and live without pain. Each day, she witnesses small transformations: shoulders that finally relax, steps that grow lighter, and smiles that return. It’s gentle work, but it changes lives – one careful movement at a time.

Technitune Computer Specialists
Keeping Technology Simple, Reliable and Local
Unit 2 / 13 Hill St. Tamworth, NSW, 2340

The story of Technitune began with a young boy and his fascination for how things work. From tinkering with computers in his teens to building his first machines for friends in 2003, founder Adam turned a lifelong curiosity into a thriving local business built on integrity and precision. He quickly saw that reliability wasn’t about flashy marketing – it came down to quality parts, attention to detail, and genuine customer care. That belief became the foundation of Technitune’s “secret sauce”: high-quality components, smart investment in technology, and service that always puts people first.
By 2004, Adam had officially launched Technitune – Mobile Computer Services from his garage, and before long, word spread about his honest, practical approach to IT. Many of the early computers he built are still running today – a testament to the care and craftsmanship behind each one. As the business grew, so did the need for space, and in 2016 Technitune moved into its current Tamworth premises, complete with a comfy couch, dedicated workroom, and remote support facilities designed to make tech support feel easy and approachable.
Today, Technitune provides a full range of services, from PC and Mac repairs to custom builds, proactive managed services, and business IT support. Whether you’re upgrading your home setup, tackling a major office project, or just trying to get your Wi-Fi to behave, Adam and his team are ready to help you get it right. After more than two decades in business, their focus remains unchanged – helping people and businesses stay connected, productive, and stress-free through technology that works as hard as they do.

Throughout October, we’ll run stories highlighting the great local businesses we have right here in our communities. This is a free service – the businesses highlighted have not paid for this story.
