Tamworth locals will have the chance to pick up free clothing and enjoy a community barbecue when Talking Threads hosts its second Community Day of the year later this month.
More than three tonnes of clothing will be available at the event, including women’s, men’s, and children’s wear, making it the largest giveaway Talking Threads has ever held.
“We’re so grateful to receive donations from our local community, and we’re excited to be able to pass so much of it on, and support our community in a practical way,” said Emily Honess, General Manager at Talking Threads.
The Community Day will be held on Friday, October 24, from 10am to 3pm at Hillvue Scout Hall, 2A Hillvue Road, South Tamworth. No registration is required, and everyone is welcome to come along, browse the clothing racks, and enjoy the relaxed community atmosphere.
The University of New England is providing a free barbecue for attendees, while Sora Community Services and Flourish Australia will be on site offering information about their programs and hosting activities, including a playgroup for children.
Talking Threads, a local not-for-profit founded by Emily and a group of friends in 2022 to support arts and culture, has grown to become a vibrant community hub. The Community Day is one of several initiatives aimed at helping local families and promoting connection through shared generosity.
“Our hope is to foster a sense of community sharing,” Ms Honess said.
“We’ve been able to create a fun and positive event, where everyone feels welcome and can stay and hang out, we’ve even got some local muso’s who have volunteered to play live music.”
Volunteers are encouraged to lend a hand, either on the day or beforehand, to help sort and set up the mountain of donated clothing. Talking Threads is calling for anyone interested in pitching in or joining the team to get in touch.
