Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions from next week on Cohens Bridge on Chandos Street at Gunnedah as essential work continues.
Transport for NSW is upgrading the bridge to preserve its significant heritage value while strengthening its structural integrity.
Structural work was completed in June with bridge painting about to start.
Site compound commissioning work for painting started from Monday 28 July, however, this work caused no disruptions to road users.
Traffic control will be in place from Wednesday 27 August with one lane closed and temporary traffic signals in place to ensure safety of workers and motorists.
Bridge painting will continue under these changed traffic conditions until late 2026.
Due to lane width restrictions, heavy vehicles and any vehicle more than three metres wide will need to continue using the detour via Old Blue Vale and Blue Vale roads. This detour will remain in place throughout the upcoming painting work.
Vehicles travelling under a permit MUST NOT travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated one is obtained from the NHVR.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
