500 RFS legends in Tamworth this weekend

They’re the volunteers who are there for us when our world is on fire – literally – and this weekend hundreds of them are coming to Tamworth.

TREC will be hosting the Rural Fire Service Association’s 2025 conference this weekend, for three days of discussion, panels, presentations and demonstrations, and an important chance for far-flung firies together.

The conference opens on Friday the 30th with a reception and introduction by RFSA President Scott Campbell, with the more in-depth presentations and guest from Saturday, including a welcome from both NSW Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib and Shadow Minister Gurmesh Singh, and RFS Commissioner Rob Rogers.

CEO of the RFSA, Sharon Ellicott, said they are looking forward to welcoming over 500 members of the RFSA to Tamworth.

“We have an incredible line up of presented, including from former Olympic athlete and now doctor Jana Pittman, and global behavioural scientist Milo-Arne Wilkinson.”

Pittman will give the keynote address on how to engage and support communities within the RFS on Saturday, while Sunday will see a presentation on effective planning by Susannah Bilous, and a talk from the NSW Police on how to prevent, prepare, and disrupt terrorism in NSW.

Outside demonstrations also happening on the Sunday will include live fires, and an array of modern and vintage RFS vehicles.

The conference will also feature a range of exhibitors across all three days, showcasing a range of suppliers to the emergency services.

“If you missed out or were unable to apply, don’t worry, we will be live streaming every speaker so all members can benefit from the valuable insights shared.”

The live stream will particularly be of benefit to those who are still helping with the flood response, both on the coast and locally. The RFSA has been supporting volunteers throughout the flood response, both with mental health support, and practical assistance like a fresh t-shirt and organising for volunteers to be able to grab a bite from Maccas.
