A fresh, youth-led event is hitting Campbell Park in Inverell and it’s all about music and showcasing local talent of young people aged 12 – 24.
Battle on the Bank, a free, high-energy live music competition, will take over Campbell Park on Friday, June 20, and it’s calling all young performers aged 12 to 24 to sign up and take the stage.
The event is the creation of the Inverell Youth Think Tank, a committee of local young people aged between 15 and 24 – Daniel Bernard, Hollie Purvis, Savannah Maybury and Rohan Cowley.
Team member Hollie Purvis says being part of this project has helped me become more of a leader and recognise the importance of why youth should be social and active.
Earlier in the year, the Think Tank team surveyed their peers to find out what kind of events youth in the community wants. Battle on the Bank is a direct response to the strong demand for more free, live music events for youth aged 12–24.
The Think Tank’s Daniel Bernard said he wants to see locals “support this event so that our town can see more great stuff like this in the future”.
“It’s a fantastic way for the youth in our area to compete, entertain and kickstart their music adventure.”
In addition to great performances and food stalls on site, the top three youth acts of the night will walk away with cash prizes: 1st place pocketing $300, followed by $150 for second and third gets $50.
This is more than just a gig – it’s a celebration of youth culture, open to bands, solo artists, and all kinds of performers.
Capping off the night will be a live performance by Terra Firma, one of the New England region’s most popular bands. With a loyal fan base and a unique blend of country, rock, reggae, and blues, Terra Firma’s set is guaranteed to bring the house down.
