Australian Red Cross’ annual Currabubula Branch Art Show returns this week, celebrating 61 years of art and community.
President of the Branch, Elizabeth Henderson, says this popular community event showcases local and statewide talent, while raising money for a worthy cause.
“There’s a lot of hard work gone into this event, with many teams of volunteers, as well as our members, and we have the generous support of our sponsors which offer substantial prize money, so we have high-quality artwork and it’s really good to come out and have a visit and talk to people.” said Elizabeth.
“You never know who you might find.”
Opening this Thursday through Sunday, May 22 to 25, visitors can expect a display of creative talent in the form of painting, photography. handmade jewelry and more.
“We have about 280 paintings, 70 photographs, 500 school paintings from young junior school students, pottery and six jeweller exhibitions.”
All artworks are available for purchase, with the money raised going towards the humanitarian work of Australian Red Cross.
“Proceeds go to the Australian Red Cross young parents’ program and the aged care services for older people, and that is to live independently and improve the well-being and social connection.”
The exhibition runs from 10am to 4pm daily at the Currabubula Memorial Hall, with opening night on Thursday from 6pm to 9pm.
“This event would not happen without our volunteers and members. It doesn’t just happen. It just requires basically 12 months of work so we start on the next one when this is finished, so I would lik to recognise all of their work.”
Tickets are $10 per person, $20 for opening night with a French Theme.
