In the latest of a string of violent crime offences in Moree, the Amaroo Tavern was the victim of an alleged attempted armed robbery last night.

Described as Moree’s “most famous pub”, the tavern, and attached drive-thru bottle shop, is located on just off the Newell Highway in Moree.

Police are currently appealing to the public for further information.

It is alleged that at around 9.15pm last night, Wednesday 3 April, two armed males entered the premises.

An official statement released this morning via the New England Police District Facebook page, said, “Police have been told two unknown males, armed with a machete and knife, entered the business and one male walked behind the counter.

As an employee walked in, both males exited the business and entered a white vehicle, driven by a third male, parked out front.

They drove away from the location.”

The Amaroo Tavern was contacted for comment this morning but staff said they were not currently at liberty to provide any further information. There has been no official statement issued by the Tavern at this time.

Reports on the Moree Street Wise Community Watch page suggest that no one was harmed in the incident.

Police have issued a description of the perpetrators as follows:

The first male is described as wearing a navy Adidas hooded jumper, black pants, black shoes, and holding large machete.

The second male is described wearing a black hooded jumper with white draw string, white shoes, and holding knife.

Anyone with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers via 1800 333 000 or the Crime Stoppers Website.
