Weeks of Speed is returning to Gunnedah from Saturday the 4th of March to Sunday the 26th of March.

If you’re an enthusiast of anything that moves – be it bikes, horses, cars, emergency services vehicles, or even mobility scooters – this is the festival for you. Poor weather conditions put a dampener on some of last year’s 25th Anniversary events but it was nevertheless a huge success, with more than 900 people attending. Weather permitting, this year is shaping up to be just as big, if not bigger.

Whilst there is a heavy focus on all varieties of motor racing, there are also other less high-octane events such as fishing, pig races and shooting contests throughout the month.  As a spectator, most events are either free or low-cost.

Kicking off on Saturday the 4th of March, the official opening and community street parade will be held in Conadilly Street. The opening celebrations will feature all things wheeled as well as street performances, live music, and a Show ‘n’ Shine, setting the tone for the rest of the month.

Opening weekend will also see the Boggabri Cup run at the Gunnedah Racecourse, as well as Speedway Racing at the Gunnedah Speedway.

The middle weekend will have the Gunnedah Showgrounds playing host to the Motorkhana and Mobility Scooter Racing events.

Towards the end of the month, sandwiched between the Whipcracking and Billy Boiling championships of NSW you’ll also find the Gunnedah Country Markets and the Multicultural Harmony Festival.

The final event on the closing weekend of the festival is the Mount Porcupine Hillclimb and it is considered to be a real highlight. A range of different drivers will battle it out in a test of skill to see who can make their way to the summit.

Many of the events are either sponsored or organised by local Gunnedah businesses or clubs so the month also makes for an excellent way to bring together the Gunnedah, and broader New England community.

The full calendar of family-friendly events is up on the Visit Gunnedah website.

To find out more about attending, or entering any of the weeks of speed events, comprehensive information is available on the official Weeks of Speed Gunnedah Facebook page.
