Current vacancies

Advertising Sales Representatives

New England Times and North Coast Times are currently seeking advertising sales representatives across the region.

Experience in advertising or other B2B sales is preferred, but entry level applicants will be considered. If you’re done personal training, hospitality, or working in retail – anything where there is a promotion or sales element and you have to present well and be friendly – this might be a great step for you to a rewarding career.

You will be responsible for acting on leads generated from our campaigns, booking advertising, and engaging in customer service to build and maintain client relationships. Day-to-day tasks will include communicating with potential and existing clients, pitching and closing sales, and keeping good records of your activities in an online system.

It is a remote role so can be based anywhere, but somewhere in the North Coast or New England is a necessity so you can see your local clients in person when required. Tamworth, Armidale, Inverell/Glen Innes, Coffs Harbour or Port Macquarie based people will be on the top of the list.

What we are looking for

  • Well presented people with a bubbly and friendly personality
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good work ethic and a hunger to succeed
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Experience in sales or sales related customer service
  • Drivers licence and your own car
  • Comfortable with computers and mobile phones
  • Experience using Gmail and other Google systems as well as Microsoft Office – particularly PowerPoint
  • Experience with any of these systems also really helpful: Slack, ClickUp, WordPress, Adobe Acrobat, ChatGPT
  • Strong local knowledge of the New England, North Coast or both.

What’s on offer

We are offering a very generous commission on top of above award rate base pay, meaning the better you are at the job the more you make! We’ll also support you with training and growth opportunities, and make sure you feel valued and supported by our fun and flexible team.

Immediate start available for the right candidates. Applications close when we find the right people.

Journalists

The New England Times is always on the hunt for local journalists to add to the team. You can either work freelance, or we have a limited capacity to add on-staff journalists who are based in the parts of the region we need more boots on the ground.

You ideally live in the 12 LGAs of the New England/North West to be considered. Those who live here understand why: the New England has a culture all of its own, and if you don’t live it, you won’t get it. (We’re also accepting early applications for our new North Coast site.)

If you have lived here previously and still have strong connections, we’re happy to hear from you too.

We invite all our freelancers into our Slack space so you can feel a part of the team and collaborate on stories with fellow freelancers and our on staff journos.

We offer a sliding scale of freelance rates based on complexity of the story rather than a per word arrangement. We can negotiate on costs or rates once you have proven your value to the team.

If you have a nose for finding a great story, and the experience of delivering, we would love to hear from you.

Please apply by emailing your resume and writing samples to editor@netimes.com.au
