A 50-hectare hazard reduction burn will be carried out south of Warialda on 15 and 16 August as part of ongoing efforts to reduce bushfire risk across the district.
The burn, near Kooringal Fire Trail, will reduce vegetation and other fuels that can increase the intensity and spread of bushfires.
The work is expected to provide greater protection for the Warialda community, surrounding rural properties, critical infrastructure and the natural environment.
Hazard reduction burns also create safer conditions for firefighters during future fire emergencies and help strengthen community resilience ahead of the bushfire season.
Superintendent Scott Mack said hazard reduction remained one of the most effective tools available to reduce bushfire risk.
“Carefully planned hazard reduction activities help lower fuel loads and improve the safety of our communities, while also creating more favourable conditions for firefighters responding to future bush fires.” said Mack.
Residents may notice smoke in the area during the burn and are encouraged to monitor local conditions and drive to the conditions if visibility is reduced.
