HSC students will have access to expert exam markers at a series of workshops at the University of New England’s Tamworth study centre this week.

The workshops, now in their second year, are open to local Year 12 students and will be delivered by InspirationEd HSC specialists, who will provide guidance on approaching exam questions and maximising marks.

For the first time, parents are also being invited to attend dedicated workshops aimed at helping them support their children through this year’s HSC exams.

UNE Senior Manager, Tamworth and Regions, Catherine Lees, said demand for the workshops had been strong.

“Last year, we welcomed 233 students through our HSC Workshops and saw 55 more access the recordings online โ€” the demand for quality, free HSC support in our region was undeniable,” she said.

“We’re thrilled to be back for a second year with an expanded program, because when regional students tell us something is making a difference, we listen. The feedback from last year’s students was overwhelmingly positive, with satisfaction rates of 89 to 92 per cent across our workshops and students consistently telling us they felt welcome and supported on campus.”

“This year, we’re excited to introduce two dedicated Parent HSC Support Workshops, running on the evenings of 6 and 7 July. We know from experience that when families feel informed and confident about HSC processes, university pathways, and scholarship opportunities, they become powerful advocates for their children’s futures.

“These sessions are designed to give parents the practical knowledge and reassurance they need during what can be an overwhelming time.”

In addition to the workshops, UNE Tamworth has extended access to its Peel House study centre for HSC students.

The dedicated HSC Study Hub is open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 4pm on Fridays. Students can access quiet study spaces, free Wi-Fi, printing facilities, and in-person support from UNE academics and student support staff.

Lees said all participants in last year’s HSC events were from regional or remote postcodes, while 73 per cent came from areas classified as disadvantaged.

She said it was important that students had access to support during their final years of school, regardless of where they lived.

“Every student deserves access to expert HSC preparation, regardless of their postcode or family circumstances,” Lees said.

“This initiative removes the financial and geographic barriers that too often stand between regional students and the support they need to reach their full potential.”

“UNE Tamworth has been part of this community for a long time, and the HSC Initiative reflects our deep commitment to supporting regional education at every stage. Our goal is to make UNE Tamworth the go-to educational partner for families across the Tamworth region โ€” a place where Year 12 students feel at home and can see a clear pathway to their future.”
