NBN Fixed Wireless to reach Deepwater

More than 250 homes and businesses in and around Deepwater are expected to become eligible for nbn Fixed Wireless services under the Regional Digital Connectivity Program.

The NSW Government has contracted nbn to deliver fixed wireless broadband infrastructure to parts of regional New South Wales, including Deepwater, with construction set to begin soon.

nbn’s delivery partner, Ventia, will undertake the works, including the installation of a new fixed wireless tower.

According to nbn, the Fixed Wireless network is designed to provide improved broadband connectivity for regional communities, supporting activities such as video conferencing, streaming, downloading content and connecting multiple devices at the same time.

The service uses a combination of 4G and 5G mmWave technology to transmit broadband signals from a tower to an antenna installed on a customer’s premises. nbn says the technology can provide access to speeds of up to 250Mbps, subject to network conditions and plan availability.

Residents and businesses can check their eligibility and available retail service providers at www.nbn.com.au/CheckRegional.

NSW Minister for Agriculture, Regional NSW and Western NSW Tara Moriarty said the investment would help improve digital connectivity for the local community.

“This investment ensures the community has access to reliable, high-speed broadband that makes a genuine difference in everyday life. Local businesses, students, and families all benefit.”

“This NSW Government investment is a commitment to our regional communities. It helps keep them connected, supports families and local jobs, and lays the groundwork for a prosperous future.”

Head of nbn Local NSW Tom O’Dea said the Fixed Wireless network played an important role in supporting regional connectivity.

“The nbn Fixed Wireless network is a critical part of our infrastructure, supporting regional Australian homes and businesses with faster speeds and more reliable connectivity than ever before, even during the busiest times.”

“Australians deserve access to fast, effective broadband, regardless of whether they live in a major city or a country town.”

Mayor of Glen Innes Severn Council Margot Davies welcomed the announcement and said the council had advocated for the project.

“This investment is welcome news for Deepwater and is a project which Council strongly championed.”

“Improved connectivity in Deepwater will make it easier for people to work, study, run businesses, access healthcare and stay connected with family, services and opportunities.”

“In regional communities, reliable digital connectivity is essential infrastructure that underpins socio-economic wellbeing, education, workforce participation, business growth, community resilience and access to opportunity in the modern economy.”
