Internationally acclaimed Celtic guitarist Tony McManus will take to the stage in Gunnedah later this month for a rare and intimate performance at The Civic, joined by Australian multi-instrumentalist Andrew Clermont.
The concert is part of a short run of shows bringing the two musicians together, offering audiences a unique opportunity to see the pair collaborate live.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading acoustic guitarists, McManus is known for pushing the boundaries of Celtic music. His playing draws on traditions from Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Galicia and Cape Breton, while incorporating influences from jazz and Eastern European styles. Now based in Canada, he tours internationally and is rarely seen in regional Australia.
Clermont will join McManus on fiddle, mandolin and ukulele, bringing a high-energy performance style shaped by bluegrass, old-time, Indian and Scandinavian traditions. A three-time Bluegrass Guitar Champion, he is also director of the Golden Fiddle Awards and creator of the Supper Club, a long-running collaborative music project.
“Tony and I have in fact never played together, despite our two decades of association,” Clermont said, “so this is a very rare week of high adventure on stage.”
Gunnedah Conservatorium director Rebecca Ryan said the concert would offer something special for local audiences.
“This is the kind of concert that really rewards an audience – two exceptional musicians, a meeting of styles, and something genuinely new being created on stage,” she said.
The performance will be held at The Civic, Gunnedah, on Wednesday, 29 April from 6.30pm.
Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 concession and $12 for children, with Discover NSW vouchers accepted. Bookings can be made at w.gunnedahconservatorium.com.au or by calling (02) 6742 3998.
