The Moree community is being invited to celebrate the reopening of its iconic hot artesian pools, with free entry to the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre this Thursday.
Moree Plains Shire Council Mayor Susannah Pearse has announced a free community day from 10.30am on Thursday, 9 April, marking the return of both the passive and active hot artesian pools following extensive refurbishment works.
“After many months of hard work, I am proud to announce the reopening of the Passive and Active hot artesian pools at the MAAC,” Mayor Pearse said.
“I would like to thank the community and pool users for their patience and understanding while these works were being completed.”
The upgrade restores a key community and tourism asset, with the artesian pools widely recognised as a drawcard for visitors and a valued facility for locals.
“The artesian pools at the MAAC are an integral part of our community, and a popular spot for tourists and locals to relax and rejuvenate,” Mayor Pearse said.
“So to have them out of action for this extended period of time has been frustrating.”
On the reopening day, visitors will be able to access the facility free of charge, with waterslide use also free between 10.30am and 1.30pm.
Council General Manager Natalia Cowley acknowledged the work of contractors involved in delivering the upgrades, including local and regional businesses.
“Importantly, we thank the State and Federal Governments for their financial support in this project,” she said.
The refurbishment represents a total investment of $3.223 million since 2023, funded through a combination of government grants and council contributions.
Following the reopening, the Wellness Pool will return to its role as a private booking space, while the broader aquatic centre resumes normal operations.
The Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre will continue to operate daily, opening from 6am to 7pm on weekdays and from 8am to 6pm on weekends.
