Moree to host liquor, gaming, and racing roadshow

Liquor, gaming, and racing stakeholders in Moree have been invited to take part in a statewide regulatory roadshow later this month, as the NSW Government looks to strengthen ties with regional communities.

The Hospitality and Racing Regulatory Roadshow will visit Moree on 31 March, launching this year’s tour and bringing together industry operators, community leaders, and regulators at the Moree Social Co House.

Run by the NSW Government’s Hospitality and Racing division, which includes Liquor & Gaming NSW and the Office of Responsible Gambling, the free event is open to venue operators, licensees, and representatives from across the Moree Plains and surrounding areas, including Walgett, Gwydir, Inverell, and Narrabri.

Hospitality and Racing Deputy Secretary Tarek Barakat said the roadshow was designed to give regional stakeholders a direct line into government decision-making.

“It will provide an opportunity to those attending to hear directly from our executives, ask questions, stay up to date with regulatory priorities, and connect with peers from across the sector,” he said.

The Moree session will cover key policy priorities, licensing requirements, local trends in hospitality and gambling, and harm minimisation strategies, alongside updates on compliance and regulatory operations.

Mr Barakat said the sessions were equally valuable for government, providing insight into the realities facing regional businesses.

“It is also invaluable for us to hear about their successes and challenges, as well as listen to any suggestions for future changes and initiatives,” he said.

Attendees will also have access to information stalls and one-on-one conversations with staff from licensing teams, liquor accords, the Hospitality Concierge, and GambleAware service providers.

Beyond the formal program, the visit will include broader community engagement, with meetings planned with Aboriginal representatives, councils, and police to discuss local issues relating to alcohol and gambling.
