Narrabri Shire to host 2026 DNCO Visitor Experiences Summit

Narrabri Shire will host the 2026 Visitor Experiences Summit, an annual event bringing together tourism and visitor economy operators from across country and outback NSW for learning and networking opportunities.

Hosted by Destination Country and Outback NSW (DNCO), the stateโ€™s largest destination network covering 45 per cent of NSW, the summit rotates locations each year. Delegates take part in a fully immersive 24-hour itinerary in the host region. Previous summits have been held in Dubbo, Tamworth, and Armidale.

Mayor Darrell Tiemens said Narrabri was honoured to welcome the event.

โ€œNarrabri Shire is incredibly proud to host this yearโ€™s Visitor Experiences Summit and to showcase everything our region has to offer.โ€

โ€œTourism plays an important role in our local economy, supporting around 300 jobs โ€“ which represents 4.3 per cent of total employment in our LGA,โ€ he added.

This yearโ€™s summit will focus on the social impact of tourism, featuring data insights, case studies, keynote presentations, panel discussions, and workshops.

Mayor Tiemens said Narrabriโ€™s location and natural assets made it a compelling destination.

โ€œAs a busy crossroads of two major highways, Narrabri welcomes thousands of travellers each year โ€“ many of whom are discovering thereโ€™s far more here than just a stopover,โ€ he said.

โ€œWith Mount Kaputar National Park on our doorstep and the Pilliga stretching to our south-west, we are blessed with a unique blend of natural landscapes, culture, and community that visitors are increasingly seeking out.โ€

Data shows visitor expenditure and length of stay have increased since 2021. Domestic overnight visitors are now staying on average one additional night and increasing their expenditure from $250 to $313.

Narrabri Shire Council General Manager Eloise Chaplain said the figures reflected the strength of the regionโ€™s evolving tourism offering.

โ€œThe growth in visitation and visitor spend demonstrates the increasing quality and diversity of our hospitality and accommodation sector,โ€ she said.

โ€œEvents like the Visitor Experiences Summit provide a valuable opportunity for local operators to connect, collaborate, and continue building a strong and sustainable visitor economy.โ€

The summit will also feature Karen Jones, chief executive of Destination NSW, who will host the opening fireside chat on Tuesday, 10 March.

Running from 1pm Tuesday, 10 March to 1pm Wednesday, 11 March, the program includes networking drinks and a product showcase featuring locally made goods and regional suppliers.

Mayor Tiemens encouraged local tourism operators, retailers and hospitality businesses to take part.

โ€œThis is a fantastic chance for our local businesses to shine and showcase the innovation, creativity, and warm hospitality that defines Narrabri Shire.โ€

โ€œWe look forward to welcoming industry leaders and delegates to our region and demonstrating why Narrabri continues to grow as a destination of choice.โ€
