Telstra has announced an upgrade to its mobile base station servicing Taminda, with the aim of delivering a faster, more reliable 4G and 5G mobile experience for local residents and businesses.
The work will boost the siteโs overall capacity, enabling faster download speeds, smoother video streaming, and reduced network congestion. However, mobile services in the area will experience temporary disruptions while the upgrade is carried out.
Telstraโs Regional General Manager Mike Marom said the upgrade is part of the companyโs broader commitment to improving mobile connectivity across both metropolitan and regional areas.
โWe know how important mobile connectivity is for Australians, whether youโre in the city or the country,โ Mr Marom said.
โAs data use over our mobile network continues to grow, adding extra 4G capacity to our mobile site in the area will help deliver faster downloads, smoother streaming, and less congestion for customers,โ he said.
โThe work will also make the site ready for a further upgrade to our even faster 5G in the future.โ
The Taminda mobile base station will need to be taken offline during the upgrade, scheduled for Monday, 23 February to Friday, 27 February.
โWhile disruption is required while the upgrade is underway, weโll only be switching off the site when we need to and will have it back online and working better than ever as quickly as possible,โ Mr Marom said.
Telstra customers in the area will be notified via SMS ahead of the planned works. The company confirmed that fixed-line services, NBN internet connections, and mobile coverage from other providers will remain unaffected.
Calls to Triple Zero made from a Telstra mobile during periods when the site is offline will automatically connect to another available mobile network, ensuring continued access to emergency services.
Telstra recommends customers enable Wi-Fi Calling โ a feature available on most smartphones โ to maintain the ability to make and receive calls while connected to Wi-Fi during mobile service interruptions. Business owners are also advised to speak with their banks about switching EFTPOS terminals to operate via nbn or wi-fi connections to avoid transaction delays.
