How rounding meditation works for Miranda Kerr and her children

She’s a long way from Gunnedah, but Miranda Kerr still tries to stay grounded, saying she regularly meditates with her young sons and has revealed yoga is a vital part of her wellness routine.

The 42-year-old Australian model explained how she practices Vedic rounding, a technique that combines meditation practice with breathwork and a simple, non-strenuous yoga sequence. The result is a deep, immersive experience. A number of retreats teaching the practice have been held around Byron Bay, and more studios are taking up the combined approach.

Kerr has a son, Flynn, 15, with her ex-husband Orlando Bloom, and sons Hart, 7, Myles, 6, and Pierre, 2, with her spouse Evan Spiegel.

“Each of my kids, except the baby, have been taught Vedic meditation and they each have their own mantra,” Kerr told LYMA’s Power Women series.

“It’s something I’ve been practising since I was 17 and it’s key to my connection and devotion,” she said.

“As an adult, you do it for 20 minutes, but for my children, my six-year-old does it for six minutes, seven-year-old seven minutes, and so on.”

“This New Year, he (Flynn) said: ‘Mum, I want to meditate with you every morning at 6am and do it for 20 minutes’,” she said.

“On the days he does it … he’s like, ‘I really noticed a difference. I felt much calmer the days I did it’.”

Kerr also revealed she became an early riser when she started dating Snapchat co-founder Spiegel.

“I wake up every morning between 5am and 5.30am. I’m quite an early bird,” she said.

“I was naturally a night owl before I met my husband, and we’ve been together 12 years this year.”

“I remember one of the first Friday nights we spent together and he’s like, ‘Okay, let’s go to bed’. I’m like, ‘It’s like 8.30pm’. And he’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s go to bed’.”

“Now I absolutely love it.”

Kerr sends the children to bed early “and then I have time for myself”.

“I put relaxing music on throughout the whole house at like 5pm and dim the lights so I can naturally help my kids wind down.”
