Warialda and Bingara Australia Day honours announced

Community spirit was front and centre this Australia Day as the Gwydir Shire recognised outstanding individuals and groups for their contributions throughout 2025. Ceremonies in Warialda and Bingara honoured citizens across a range of categories, celebrating everything from volunteerism and sport to environmental efforts and community events.

Warialda Australia Day Award Winners – 2026

  • Citizen of the Year: Rick and Angela Swan
  • Young Citizen of the Year: Charlotte Lockyer
  • Senior Citizen of the Year: Marilyn Stubbins
  • Event of the Year: North Star Campdraft Committee – Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Finals
  • Environmental Champion: Reedy Creek Project

The awards highlighted long-standing service and innovation in Warialda’s civic life, with recognition given to both emerging and established leaders.

Bingara Australia Day Award Winners – 2026

  • Citizen of the Year: Catherine and Ian Egan
  • Young Citizen of the Year: Scarlett Standerwick
  • Volunteer of the Year: Steve Adams
  • Community Event of the Year: NWTC’s production of Alice in Wonderland
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year: Zara Kelly
  • Senior Sportsperson of the Year: Liam Johnson

Each recipient was acknowledged for making a meaningful impact in their community – whether on the field, the stage, or through tireless behind-the-scenes work.

The Gwydir Shire Council congratulates all winners and nominees, whose efforts continue to enrich life in the region.
