Greg Inglis’ Goanna Academy brings mental health programs to Moree

Moree Plains Shire Council will welcome the Greg Inglis Goanna Academy to the region to deliver a series of engaging mental health initiatives.

General Manager Natalia Cowley acknowledged the work of Council’s Community Development Team in securing a grant from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation to support the Academy’s visit.

“The opportunity to empower the local youth and community through connection, culture and conversation, is immeasurable. This is a fantastic opportunity for Moree Plains to come together, learn from one of Australia’s inspiring role models and strengthen our community’s wellbeing,” said Ms Cowley.

The Goanna Academy, founded by NRL legend and proud Dunghutti man Greg Inglis, aims to spark open and honest conversations around mental health. The organisation is committed to supporting Australians, particularly those in regional areas, young people, men and First Nations communities, by fostering a sense of understanding, connection and empowerment.

Established in 2020, the Academy creates safe spaces for individuals to speak up, seek help and feel heard. Inglis’ journey beyond the rugby league field has become a symbol of strength and advocacy in mental health, with his courage and authenticity resonating across communities.

Originally from Kempsey and raised in Macksville, Inglis is one of Australia’s most celebrated rugby league players. Drawing on his upbringing, lived experience and close-knit family ties, he uses his personal story to encourage healing, resilience and open dialogue, reminding others they are never alone.
