Regional Telecommunications Roadshow hits the road this December

Residents across the New England North West will have a rare chance to speak directly with Australia’s leading telecommunications providers when the Regional Telecommunications Roadshow arrives in Uralla, Loomberah, Mullaley and Moree on 9–10 December.

Hosted by NSW Farmers, the free information sessions will bring together representatives from Telstra, NBN, the Regional Tech Hub, the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO), and Australian telco CMobile – all in the same room to help regional communities better understand their connectivity options and troubleshoot common issues.

Michael Collins, NSW Farmers Regional Services Manager for Regions 1, 2 and 4 said this event is unlike anything previously offered in the region.

“The Information Roadshow provides a rare opportunity for people to come along and hear from all these key players in the telecommunications space,” he said. “I doubt they have all been in the same room in these communities and may never again.”

Four sessions will be held over two days:

  • Uralla Courthouse – Tuesday 9 December, 11am–1pm
  • Loomberah Hall – Tuesday 9 December, 6pm–8pm
  • Mullaley Hall – Wednesday 10 December, 11am–1pm
  • Moree Masonic Hall – Wednesday 10 December, 6pm–8pm

Basic catering will be provided, and RSVPs are essential.

Mr Collins said previous roadshows have already helped people resolve issues that had frustrated them for years.

“I ran one in the Gwydir Shire and it was successful in helping people find ways to improve their services—some just needed updates, upgrades or even an app,” he said. “Some were able to speak individually about ways to progress complaints and ways to check if they were on the right plans.”

He added that this year’s venues were deliberately chosen to support smaller local communities.

“I have deliberately selected small outlying venues from the major centres of Tamworth, Armidale and Gunnedah and hope the community supports this, as many complain about poor telecommunications.”

Attendees will hear updates on emerging technologies, including Telstra’s work on 5G, satellite-to-messaging services, and smart connectivity solutions tailored to regional areas. NBN representatives will provide information on network upgrades and the company’s new agreement with Project Kuiper to deliver low Earth orbit satellite services to rural and remote Australia.

The Regional Tech Hub will offer free, independent one-on-one advice, while the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman will outline how they can assist residents and small businesses in resolving unresolved complaints with service providers.

Australian-owned CMobile will also be on hand to discuss flexible mobile and internet options, offering plans across all three national mobile networks and NBN technologies, including fibre, fixed wireless and satellite.

Community members are encouraged to bring their questions, share their experiences, and learn more about solutions that may improve their mobile and internet connectivity at home, on-farm, or in their business.
