Glen Innes is set to shine this festive season with Christmas in the Highlands – Illuminations, a vibrant afternoon and evening celebration bringing art, light and community spirit to the heart of the CBD.

On Saturday, 29 November, two blocks of the town centre, from Glen Innes Town Hall along Grey Street to Wentworth Street, and extending into the adjacent parklands, will be transformed into a pedestrian-friendly zone showcasing a spectacular blend of light, sound and visual installations.

“The event reimagines our CBD as a vibrant, walkable celebration space with lighting installations, local performers, artisan traders, interactive workshops, and dedicated kids’ activities across our North Pole and South Pole precincts.” said Rhonda Bombell, Coordinator of Economic Development and Tourism for Glen Innes Severn Council.

“What makes the event truly special is that it’s created by our community for our community. Local makers, musicians, volunteers, businesses, families, and Council teams all contribute.”

“Over recent months, we’ve delivered workshops to create projection mapping, murals, and static displays. The program features a brilliant lineup of regional entertainers, roving projections, children’s activities, live reindeer, Santa, carollers, and a Parade of Light leading into an evening street party.”

The event will feature live entertainment, artisan market stalls, food vendors, and the official switching on of the town’s Christmas lights. Visitors can expect a curated selection of local artisans, producers and stallholders offering unique gifts, festive fare and handmade goods, perfect for holiday shopping.

A highlight of the evening will be a series of special art and lighting installations, promising an immersive and magical experience for all ages.

Festivities will kick off from 3pm, with live reindeer on-site between 5pm and 8pm. The Parade of Light will commence at 7.30pm along Grey Street, followed by a community street party running through to 10pm.

“We’d love everyone across the New England region to come and experience the magic of Christmas in the Highlands – Illuminations for themselves. Glen Innes is the perfect meeting place designed to bring people together.:

“Families, friends, visitors, and neighbours can enjoy a full day of unique activities throughout our CBD, with plenty of parking available behind the Visitor Information Centre and along the side streets near the activation area.”

“Come for the lights, the atmosphere, and the festive excitement but also come to support our local creators, traders, and performers who make this region so special. Bring the kids, bring your friends, grab a bite to eat, and take your time exploring each precinct.”

“Most importantly, come and be part of something that celebrates who we are as a community: welcoming, creative, proud, and deeply connected to our place in the Highlands. We can’t wait to share this magical night with everyone.”

The event is funded by the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program in partnership with Glen Innes Severn Council.
