Construction on the Tamworth Skywalk has reached a new phase, with contractor FORGE commencing installation of the elevated boardwalk structure this week.
The installation marks a key stage in the development of the Skywalk, which is designed to provide elevated views of the surrounding landscape while improving safety for local walkers and visitors. The completed structure is intended to become a prominent tourist attraction and public amenity in the region.
Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb said the project represents a long-term investment in the community’s infrastructure and visitor economy.
“Seeing the Skywalk structure start to take shape is a proud moment for our community,” Cr Webb said.
“It’s an investment in our future and one that will attract visitors, boost our economy, and give residents another reason to be proud of where they live.”
The $18 million project is jointly funded by the New South Wales Government, which has contributed $14.3 million, and Tamworth Regional Council, which has allocated $3.7 million through its Regional Development Fund.
Construction is expected to continue into mid-2026 and will include the full path and boardwalk structure, rest areas, and viewing platforms. Associated works such as the Endeavour Drive car park and landscaping are also planned.
FORGE Head of Construction, Robert Antonios, said the company has focused on local procurement and community engagement throughout the build.
“As part of our commitment to supporting local communities, we are making a $10,000 donation to Can Assist, a not-for-profit organisation that supports people affected by cancer,” Mr Antonios said.
The company also noted that local contractors have been engaged where possible, aiming to provide both economic and social benefits to the region.
Once completed, the Skywalk will provide an accessible walking route between Endeavour Drive and Oxley Scenic Lookout, with features designed to accommodate wheelchairs, prams and those with limited mobility.
