With hundreds of cars, live music, fireworks, and fun for the whole family, Back to the Bush is set to rev up Barraba once again next Saturday, 18 October.

Hosted at the Barraba RSL Club by the Aircooled Assembly Inc car club, the annual event brings hundreds of cars, motorbikes, and car lovers together for a massive family-friendly day out.

Shaun Faulkner from Aircooled Assembly Inc said preparations are well underway and excitement is building in the community.

“As a club, we enjoy all aspects of the event but it’s extremely rewarding seeing the community and surrounds come together,” he said.

The festival began in 2017 as a satellite to Frost Over Barraba, but has since found its own place on the calendar. “The time of year wasn’t ideal for us so we decided to move it to the warmer weather,” Faulkner said.

This year’s festival will feature around 200 entries, including hot rods, vintage cars, customs, and motorcycles.

Faulkner said car enthusiasts travel from far and wide for the event, with new clubs this year from further afield.

“Last year we had entries from as far as the Hunter Valley, but this year following our inaugural Muddy MAYhem in May, we have a couple of clubs attending from Sydney and Coffs Harbour,” he said.

Crowd numbers are also expected to bigger than ever.

“Numbers are extremely difficult to gauge due to it being free entry, however, I would be disappointed if we didn’t see 1500 plus through the gate,” he said.

The day kicks off from 9am with cars and bikes on display, free kids’ rides and face painting, colouring in competition, plus food and market stalls. There’ll also be merchandise, raffles, and new attractions supported by event sponsors. You can also take a scenic helicopter ride.

This year introduces the first-ever Observatory Run, a fun drive around Barraba where participants collect and return questionnaire sheets for a chance to win a prize.

Evening entertainment will again be free, featuring Tamworth musician Kyle Cartner and Chicken Liquor, with fireworks by Inland Fireworks lighting up the sky from 9pm.

“The fireworks are definitely a not-to-miss event,” Faulkner said. “Inland Fireworks do an amazing job to the point that people have said they are the best they’ve seen at least in the North West.”
