The multi-million-dollar Inverell Aquatic Centre (IAC) will be officially opened tomorrow, Friday, 12 September, with a community celebration.
The Aquatic Centre has this week reached 100% completion with the installation of the spectacular Splash Toy to finalise construction of this state-of-the-art facility.
The Splash Toy is unique to the region and will provide an added attraction to draw the community and visitors to the Aquatic Centre.
The IAC will be closed from 11am on Friday as a small official function is held, by invitation, for contractors and those directly involved with the delivery of the project. The centre will remain closed until 2pm as preparations are conducted for the community celebration to commence at 4pm.
The community celebration will include a free sausage sizzle, giveaways, a DJ, cutting of a ceremonial ribbon by the Mayor, plus the inflatable obstacle course and Splash Toy will be operating.
Due to safety protocols at the Aquatic Centre, the event is subject to limited numbers, with those wishing to attend required to obtain a free ticket here.
“The official opening of the Inverell Aquatic Centre represents a landmark achievement for our Shire. As the largest infrastructure project, in dollar terms, ever undertaken by Inverell Shire Council, this facility stands as a testament to our long-term vision, strategic planning, and commitment to community development,” said Mayor Kate Dight.
“This centre will serve as a vital hub for health, recreation, and social connection, offering inclusive access to residents of all ages and abilities. I extend my sincere gratitude to all those who contributed to the successful delivery of this project, from Council staff and contractors to community members whose input helped shape its design. It is a privilege to witness the realisation of such a transformative initiative for Inverell Shire.”
