Glen Innes Severn Council has successfully secured $1,938,533 in Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) funding to continue to deliver essential aged care services to older residents in the area over the next two years.
The funding package, confirmed through a Commonwealth Standard Grant Agreement with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA), will support 10 key service areas from July 2025 to July 2027, ensuring comprehensive care for local seniors who wish to remain living independently in their own homes.
“Our Life Choices Support Services staff do an incredible job supporting our older residents in the community to maintain their independence and stay connected. This funding is a huge boost for Council and supports our ongoing commitment to the provision of this service.” Mayor Margot Davis said.
The funding will support:
• Home and community respite services – providing temporary relief for carers
• Group social support activities– fostering community connections and participation
• Meal delivery services – ensuring proper nutrition for vulnerable residents
• Individual social support– personalised community engagement programs
• Transport services– connecting seniors with essential services and activities
• Domestic assistance – helping maintain safe home environments
• Personal care support – assisting with daily living activities
• Equipment and assistive technology– promoting safety and independence
• Home maintenance and repairs– ensuring safe and habitable homes
• Allied health and therapy services– supporting health and wellbeing
“This funding enables us to continue providing vital services that support our ageing population. These programs are designed to help older residents live safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible — from meal delivery and transport to respite care and home maintenance, ” Mayor Davis added.
The services will be delivered over a two-year period, with comprehensive reporting and quality assurance measures in place to ensure optimal outcomes for recipients.
Council encourages eligible residents aged 65 and over to contact the LC-SS team to discuss available support options.
