Australia’s finest emerging and established designers are being called to the runway, with entries now open for the 2025 Fleece to Fashion Awards.

Celebrating the versatility and sustainability of Australian Merino wool, the prestigious national competition is a showcase of creativity that traces the fibre’s journey from the farm to the fashion spotlight.

Based in Armidale, the annual event continues to grow in scale and reputation, offering a platform for designers at all stages of their careers to highlight their talents with wool as the hero fabric.

The awards feature three main categories: Developing Designer for secondary school students, Emerging Designers for tertiary-level students, and Established Designers for experienced creatives and professionals.

All entrants must submit garments that prominently feature Australian Merino wool. Garments must be received by Friday, October 31, with winners announced during a Gala Parade and Presentation evening on Saturday, November 15.

The Gala Parade promises a night of glamour, entertainment, and fine food, drawing designers, industry leaders, and wool lovers together in a celebration of fashion and fibre.

“The Fleece to Fashion Awards are now accepting entries for the 2025 competition, inviting designers from across Australia to showcase their creativity and innovation using Australian Merino wool,” organisers said.

“The annual event celebrates the journey of wool from the farm to the fashion runway, highlighting its versatility and sustainability.”

The competition’s unique focus on wool design not only honours one of Australia’s most iconic natural fibres but also supports the future of textile innovation. The event has become a cornerstone of Armidale’s cultural calendar and a highlight for the wool and fashion industries.

Organisers are encouraging entrants to complete the official entry form, available on the Fleece to Fashion website, and begin preparing their garments ahead of the October deadline.

Last year’s entries featured a stunning range of designs—from school students experimenting with modern silhouettes to professional designers pushing the boundaries of wool’s capabilities in couture.
