If you’re looking for love in 2023, apparently today is the day to log on to internet dating sites.

According to leading dating site eharmony, the first of January sees more people log-on to online dating services than any other day of the year, with traffic set to peak between 6 and 10pm.

And it’s not women… more men will log on, especially those aged in their 50s, who use the new year as a new reason to look for a new romance.

Overall, the month of January is the most popular for those seeking relationships, with the number of messages sent through online dating 30% higher than the average month.

Eharmony psychologist Sharon Draper attribute this increased interest in finding a partner to the fact that people obviously feel more determined to make positive life changes once party season ends at the start of a new year.

“The New Year often brings about a chance for people to focus on what they value as being of importance for the year ahead, the increased sign ups suggest that love ranks high on the personal agenda.”

“Personal relationships are one of the most important things in our lives, especially romantic ones. They are often the foundations of building a life and having children, so the fact that people are actively pursuing new relationships in the New Year on eharmony, shows that finding love is definitely a resolution that could be achieved if you put yourself out there,” Ms Draper said.

However, as many New Englanders will attest to, online dating sites are not as useful if you live in a regional area. Facebook groups such as Country Singles NSW, or local social clubs such as Armidale Friends You Haven’t Met Yet may be a better way to find someone close to you.
