A man has died after being struck by a car on the Oxley Highway near Tamworth Airport early Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the Oxley Highway near New Winton Road at Westdale, near the large roundabout close to Tamworth Airport, about 3.45am on Sunday 15 March following reports a man had been hit by a vehicle.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended and provided assistance to the man before the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The man was treated at the scene and transported to Tamworth Base Hospital, however he later died.
He has not yet been formally identified.
The driver of the vehicle, a 62-year-old woman, was not injured. She was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police have established a crime scene which will be forensically examined as investigations continue.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
The Oxley Highway remains closed in both directions while investigations are carried out, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
