Governor to visit Moree region to connect with local communities

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, and Mr Dennis Wilson will visit Moree and surrounding communities from Thursday, 19 March, to Saturday, 21 March, meeting with local residents, community groups and regional organisations.

The visit will highlight community services, education initiatives and local industries that support the Moree region.

“Dennis and I are looking forward to visiting Moree and surrounds in the coming days, where we will meet locals, soak up the culture and natural beauty, and learn about the region’s community connections and support services, as well local agribusiness and infrastructure initiatives and aspirations.” said the Governor.

During their time in Moree, the Governor and Mr Wilson will meet representatives from Moree Plains Shire Council to hear about local priorities and development projects. They will also share morning tea with Dhiiyaan Elders at the Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Centre and visit Moree Secondary College, where they will meet students and staff and learn about the Connected Communities Strategy supporting educational outcomes.

The Vice-Regal couple will also visit Byamee Proclaimed Place Support Services to learn about programs assisting vulnerable members of the community, and tour Vitonga Farms’ Beela Farm to hear about innovation and opportunity in the local agricultural sector. They will later attend a Young Aggies Moree garden reception, meeting young professionals building careers in regional agribusiness.

In Boggabilla, the Governor and Mr Wilson will visit the Gomeroi Men’s Shed and join students and staff for morning tea at Toomelah Public School, recognising the role of community-led initiatives and schools in supporting local families.

Returning to Moree, they will meet members of the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association NSW at Café Gali to discuss the challenges facing families in remote areas. They will also visit Yaama Ganu Gallery to view local exhibitions and receive an update on progress for the Moree Special Activation Precinct.

The Governor and Mr Wilson will also visit PCYC Moree to learn about the U-Nites youth program, which aims to foster positive behaviour through after-hours sporting, cultural and educational activities.

The visit will conclude at Chalky’s Boxing Gym, where they will meet volunteers and observe community fitness and boxing sessions that provide positive pathways and support for local young people.
