Changed traffic conditions on Gwydir Highway for Cycle Classic

Motorists are advised of rolling road closures on Saturday, 14 March along the Gwydir Highway for the annual Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic. The men’s race will start at 7:15 am from Prince Street, Grafton, while the women’s race will start at 8:15 am from Mount Mitchell (Gwydir Highway).

Both the men’s and women’s races will finish in Vivian Street, Inverell, where the
last riders are expected to arrive by 5 pm. For the safety of race participants and motorists, rolling road closures will be in place along the route from 6.30 am to 5 pm.

Motorists travelling between Grafton and Glen Innes are advised to delay their trips until the highway reopens, while motorists travelling between Glen Innes and Inverell are advised to allow extra travel time and exercise caution.

In Grafton, Prince Street will be closed between Victoria Street and the Clarence River from 5.15 am to 8.30 am. In South Grafton, Ryan Street (Gwydir Highway) will be closed between the Charles Street roundabout and Skinner Street roundabout from 7 am to 7.45 am.

The Gwydir Highway will be closed between Tindal Road (15 kilometres west of Grafton) and Bald Nob Road (25 kilometres east of Glen Innes) to all westbound traffic (Grafton to Glen Innes) from 7 am to 1.30 pm.

The Gwydir Highway will be closed between Bald Nob Road and Tindal Road to all eastbound traffic (Glen Innes to Grafton) from 5 am to 1.30 pm.

Riders are expected to travel from Glen Innes to Inverell between 9.30 am and 4 pm along the Gwydir Highway to Dodds Lane (20 kilometres east of Inverell) and Elsmore Road through to Inverell. Variable speed reductions will be in place along the Gwydir Highway during the event, and motorists should be aware of speed reduction signs and traffic controllers on site.

Elsmore Road, Inverell, will be under traffic control for the event, and motorists travelling in the area should allow extra travel time.
