One man has died, and another is in custody following an alleged stabbing at a campsite at Woolbrook, just days after an alleged axe murder at the Little Styx River campsite near Ebor.
About 6pm (Sunday 8 March 2026), emergency services were called to a campsite off Danglemah Road, Woolbrook, a small community between Bendemeer and Walcha, following reports of a stabbing.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended and were told two men were involved in an altercation before one of the men was allegedly stabbed several times in the chest and neck.
The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.
He is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be aged in his 50s.
The other man – aged 43 – was uninjured.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to Tamworth Police Station.
Police have established a crime scene and Oxley detectives have commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following an initial search of the scene police have located and seized a knife believed to have been used in the incident.
Investigations continue.
Last Monday, March 2, a Thora man was killed with an axe at the Little Styx River campground, approximately 20km from Ebor. The events are believed to be unrelated: the accused in that case, 26 year old Ahwen Kohn also of Thora, was denied bail when he fronted court on March 3.
