Young players invited to Nomads AFL Come and Try day

The New England Nomads Juniors are preparing for the upcoming AFL season and are encouraging new and returning players to get involved.

The club will kick off its 2026 season with a Come and Try Day on Tuesday, March 24, at Bellevue Oval.

Club president Cameron Dalgleish said the event was open to boys and girls aged four to 14.

“The Nomads Juniors are excited to welcome players who are trying Aussie Rules for the first time, as well as those returning for another season,” Dalgleish said.

“No previous sports experience is required — just bring plenty of energy and join the fun.”

The Come and Try Day, along with the junior program, is open to players born between 2012 and 2021.

Registrations are now open, although weekly Tuesday afternoon Auskick and Superkick sessions will not begin until the first week of Term 2 on April 21.

The club will also field teams this year in AFL North West’s under-10, under-12 and under-14 competitions.

Those age groups compete in a gala day format, with matches held every three weeks at rotating venues.

The first gala day of the 2026 season will be held in Gunnedah on Sunday, May 3.

It will also be the longest trip for families during the season, with other gala days scheduled for Armidale, Glen Innes, Tamworth and Inverell.

The Come and Try Day begins at 4pm, with a free barbecue available for everyone who attends.
